Kids Saving History Project- Tell Us Your Story

Call To Tell Your Story!

Kids Saving History, A video history project funded by Project Challenge and the Madison County Rotary Club is asking you to tell us a story! Project Challenge is a local, non-profit agency dedicated to helping youth serve their community. Project Challenge believes this is best done through making connections and building worth in the children it serves.

Earlier this year, the Rotary Club granted Project Challenge funding to purchase a video camera for the participants in the program to collect local histories throughout the county. Kids Saving History is a regional program that builds confidence and understanding through interviewing people in the community.

Project Challenge is asking for your stories, tales and tours of what Madison County should not forget. So give us a call, and let the kids interview you about growing up in the county, or what it was like to move here. Tell us words of wisdom about growing up, or how you have served your community, funny or sad, just tell the tale!

Contact Natasha Shealy @ 380-9759.

All video footage will be donated to Mars Hill College .

Arts Camp Rocks

The Madison County Arts Camp has started its two week run at Marshall High Studios. This camp is really special as I found out last year when I hung around to take some photos. Arts Camp this year is full up but if you have children between 4 and 13 keep it in mind for next year.

Arts Camp is a non profit and the teachers are all exceptionally committed to expanding horizons. The half day sessions include art, music, drama, samplers (for the younger children), ceramics and movement arts. For daily photos, postings and reflections visit the Arts Camp Blog.

Lapland Bookshop and Arts

Finally made it into Lapland Bookshop & Arts. Wow! Stacey and Mick have done a fantastic job with the building. What a beautiful space - the reading room by the train tracks and the river will inspire your mountain dreams. My photographs don't do it any righteous justice. This is Marshall's perfect space to mellow down easy.

Lapland has wireless internet service and I'll be spending some quality time there. This is a place that speaks to you from the heart of Marshall's beautiful valley. Did I mention the incredible view across the railroad tracks and French Broad River looking out towards Blannahasset Island? Awesome!

Vicki Lane has written her typical great post about the Bookshop on her blog. Mick & Stacey are up and running with a nice blog of their own with some great pictures of the Mermaid Parade and the Bookshop. The parade kicked off from the shop on June the 12th's French Broad Friday. Do yourself a favor and stop in and visit this special place.

Lapland Bookshop will be closed from June 16th through 29 and will reopen Tuesday June 30th.

More Marshall Magic.
