The Marshall Auricular Hour Returns! - Tuesday July 6, 2010 at 7:30 PM
Slam Poetry and Radical Literary Theory meet Clawhammer Banjo breakdown head on, as The Marshall Auricular Hour returns to the French Broad Institute (of Time & the River), 68 North Main Street, Marshall, NC for a second season, this Tuesday July 6th at 7:30pm. In a typically genre bending opening line-up, celebrated local musician Laura Boosinger joins forces with nationally noted visiting poets Greggory Scott DeBoor & Stephen Paul Miller.
A reading and performance series in Marshall NC , THE MARSHALL AURICULAR HOUR Tuesday Night Summer Series, presents an evening of performance followed by a reception and book signing down the street at Lapland Bookshop & Arts, 147 North Main St, Marshall. Refreshments provided by Zuma Coffee. The series will feature "Live Literary & Musical Ear Candy", usually featuring one or more writers paired with a musician, often mixing local Marshall based talent with visiting artists. Admission is $5

The French Broad Institute (of Time and The River), the multifaceted arts venue in downtown Marshall, returns for the summer with a concert The Mike Strauss Band on Friday, June 25th. Charlotte Creative

The FBI co-hosts The Marshall Auricular Hour with Lapland Bookshop & Arts and Zuma Coffee. It also hosts the Devotional Cinema Series. The FBI is curated by Actor/Director Tony Torn and Poet/Performer Lee Ann Brown.

Business Of Art Classes - Free! A Four Part Series Thursday Afternoons - June 24th - July 15th, 2010
I'm pleased to announce that we'll be hosting Wendy Outland for a series of classes on the Business of Art. The four-part series of weekly business workshops will be offered to visual artists at Marshall High Studios (MHS) beginning Thursday, June 24. Sponsored by the Very Small Business Center, each two-hour segment will begin at 2pm. The workshops are free and open to artists at MHS as well as all artists that reside in the Marshall area.

July 1 - Sales Techniques
July 8 - Consignment Issues
July 15 - Pricing Guidelines

June 11th French Broad Friday Lineup! Mermaids In Marshall!
JOIN US in Downtown Marshall, NC for the 3rd annual Mermaids in Marshall French Broad Friday on Friday, June 11th. Many downtown Marshall businesses will be open late and will feature Mermaid-themed specials.
5pm - 9pm Open Studios at Hill Street Studios (corner of Hill and Main St.) enter at the back door at the rear of the building. Painters, jewelers, sculptors and ceramic masters.
6pm - 9pm Carriage Rides down Main Street and to the Blannahasset Island (across the bridge from Main Street - weather permitting) from Worley's Farrier & Carriage Service. There isn't a fee for the ride, but tips are very welcome!!
6pm - 7:30pm Zuma Coffee, gallery opening for Seeing Through the Eyes of a Hummingbird by photographer and Madison County resident Connie Toops.
6:30pm - 7:30pm Reggae music and games on the Blannahasset Island.
7pm - The Depot: Traditional country, bluegrass, & mountain music, dancing, a cakewalk, and more.
7:30pm - 8pm Mermaid Parade - leaving from Blannahasset Island. Pirates, privateers, sailors, fairies and swashbuckler's welcome all! The parade will make a run through the auditorium of Marshall High Studios, then it will head over the bridge to the "mainland" making a left at the courthouse, down to Lapland Bookshop & Arts, and then do an about face down Main Street to Good Stuff where there will a costume contest. Beads and bubbles will be provided to parade participants (while supplies last) to wear, throw and blow.....so there isn't any confusion, participants wear the beads, throw the beads and blow the bubbles....
8pm Best costume and best float awards at Good Stuff , 133 South Main St.
9pm Michael Cody (a Marshall native) and the Sugar Daddy Band on the Courthouse porch , taking advantage of the Courthouse lawn for a FREE CONCERT. If you're from the Asheville area, you might remember Michael, who used to play a lot of music in the area in the late 70s and early 80s. Bring your lawn chairs, but also plan to be up dancing!
And on this first French Broad Friday event of 2010, we're introducing Flow, located in the space formerly occupied by Firewalker Gallery (14 South Main Street). Flow offers handmade adornment for the body and home. The Soft Opening Reception features art, craft and wearables by local artists and refreshments.
